The Catch: Rubber has limits. If you run abrasive slurry, high heat, or nasty chemicals through it, that soft seal is going to shred or melt sooner rather than later.

When the operating conditions get brutal, you have to ditch the rubber entirely. That's where the hard sealed gate valve steps up. This design uses a metal-to-metal seated setup, meaning the wedge and the seat are machined out of heavy-duty stainless steel or faced with ultra-hard alloys like Stellite.

The Catch: Let's be realistic—jamming two pieces of hard metal together to stop fluid isn't easy. Getting an absolute 100% tight seal requires incredibly precise manufacturing tolerances. These valve components don't care about high mechanical stress, and they can take temperatures climbing past 400°C without breaking a sweat.
